In a hadith: “It is equivalent to a quarter of the Quran.”
It is Madinah by agreement, meaning: it was revealed after the migration to Medina, and it is one of the last to be revealed.
On the authority of Ibn Abbas, he said: “When {إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ} was revealed, the Messenger of ِAllah (PBUH) said: My soul was reported to me {that} he had died in that year.”
The time of its revelation differed:
- It was revealed in the year in which the Messenger of Allah died ( PBUH) .
- It was revealed before the conquest, and this is what appears; Because his saying: {إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ} clearly indicates that the conquest had not yet come, because “if” is an adverb for what comes of time.
{ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ } :
It was his aid against the enemies until the Prophet ( PBUH) defeated all the Arabs, and seized control of them from the Quraysh and others. Ibn Abbas said that victory was the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah.
{ الْفَتْحُ }
He conquered Mecca. Ibn Abbas and others said this; Because the Arabs were waiting, with their Islam, for the Prophet ( PBUH) to appear in Mecca.
{وَرَأَيْتَ النَّاسَ يَدْخُلُونَ فِي دِينِ اللَّهِ أَفْوَاجًا}
What is meant by (النَّاسَ ) is the All People , according to ( the opinion of the majority ) ,
Another opinion: They are the people of Yemen.
: في “الصحيحين” من حديث ابن عباس “أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال يوم الفتح
( لاَ هِجْرَةَ وَلَكِنْ جِهَادٌ وَنِيَّة )
-In the Sahihiny , from the hadith of Ibn Abbas, “The Prophet said on the day of the conquest: ‘There is no migration, but jihad and intention.’
{أَفْوَاجًا}
– One group after another, as Allah Almighty said: { كُلَّمَا أُلْقِيَ فِيهَا فَوْجٌ }
{فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ}
There are two opinions in it
One of them: that what is meant by prayer is narrated from Ibn Abbas.
The second: known التسبيح ( praise ).
Meaning: Combine praising Him – which is to purify Him of the shortcomings that do not befit Him – and praising Him, which is affirming the praises that befit Him.
And his saying: {وَٱسۡتَغۡفِرۡهُۚ } meaning: Ask for his forgiveness.
Forgiveness: is protecting the evil of sin, not merely covering it up.

Conclusion :
– A group of the Companions – may God be pleased with them – understood that the Prophet – was commanded to praise God and seek forgiveness upon the coming of God’s victory and conquest, as thanks to God for this blessing.
Just as the Prophet prayed eight rak’ahs on the day of the conquest of Mecca, and likewise Saad prayed on the day of the conquest of Mada’in, and that was called: the conquest prayer.
– As for Omar and Ibn Abbas, they said: Rather, the coming of victory and conquest was a sign of the approach of his time and the end of his life.
So he ordered him to conclude his work with that, and prepare to meet God and come to Him in his best and most complete condition.
When God’s victory and conquest came, Mecca became the land of Islam, as well as the entire Arabian Peninsula, and no infidels remained there, and people entered the religion of God in droves.
